Q. What happens
if my “cyberorthotics” need adjustments?
A. Any adjustments or modifications
to your cyberorthotics will be free of charge within the first 90 days. Adjustments
or modifications outside of this period will incur a small fee for service .
Q. What’s the difference between “Cyberorthotics” and “Over
the counter” (OTC) orthotics that are already pre-moulded?
A. Both OTC devices and cyber orthotics
will limit excessive pronation which is the major cause of many of our foot
problem, but only with the “Cyberorthotics” will you have a greater chance of
success, because “cyber orthotics” will capture the normal contours of YOUR
foot when a cast or mould is taken. No foot is ever the same, your left foot
is different to your right foot, and your right foot is again completely different
to someone else’s right foot. In my experience you will always get better result
from an orthotic made by a cast or a mould which fits your feet.
Q. I don’t have any foot pain now but will Cyberorthotics
prevent me from getting problems later on?
A. Cyberorthotics can be used by
anyone and it can also be used for preventative measures. For example, as we
get older the arches of our feet tend to flatten down which can eventually cause
postural problems or poor alignment in our feet, ankles, legs, knees, hips and
even the lower back. Cyberorthotics will limit your arches from flattening down
and therefore help keep your body better aligned.
Q. Will Cyberorthotics fix bunions and clawed toes and
make them go away?
A. Sorry, no they won’t, but they
will reduce the development of such deformities. These foot deformities are
largely due to excessive pronation so by limiting excessive pronation you will
alternately slow down the development of bunions and clawed toes simply by placing
the foot into better alignment.
Q. Do I need to wear Cyberorthotics all the time?
A. No you don’t have to, but you
will probably want to. As time goes on you will get very use to wearing your
Cyberorthotics, to the point where you probably won’t leave home without them.
As long as you wear them most of the time, and at times when you are most active,
your feet will thankyou for it.
Q. I’ve just been diagnosed with Plantar Fasciitis. Can
Cyberorthotics help me?
A. Plantar Fasciitis is one of the
most common foot complaints seen in clinics today. It’s due to repeated overstretching
of the plantar fascia ligament under the arch of the foot which attaches from
the front of the heel to the ball of the foot. It can be caused from excessively
pronated feet, an increase in weight, an increase in activity especially running,
increase in age, and hereditary factors. If your foot flattens out too much
on weight bearing the plantar fascia may over stretch and become inflamed. Cyberorthotics
are designed to limit your excessive pronation there by reduce the over stretching
of the plantar fascia which will reduce the discomfort that you experience in
the heel.
Q. How can someone issue orthotics when they haven’t seen
the patient or their feet?
A. Experience plays a big part here and the way we make the orthotics. When
a negative cast is applied, and the foot is placed into a position which is
as near as possible to the subtalar joint neutral position. Cyberorthotics will
be manufactured off the positive cast which will place the foot into a position
which is nearer the optimal position for your feet, legs, hips and lower back.
Orthotics laboratories do this all the time.
Q. How long does it take for the pain or discomfort
to go away?
A. This is a good question and it
is not an easy one to answer because there are so many variables to consider.
For example, your age, your weight, how long you have put up with the discomfort,
( the longer you leave a problem sometimes the harder it is to get rid of it.)
and not to forget the types of footwear that you wear can be a contributing
to your discomfort. Most people experience a noticeable relief in their discomfort
1-2 weeks into wearing their orthotics, and it gradually gets better as time
goes on. It’s important to remember that your problem has built up over time
and therefore it will take a little longer for you to get real relief. But for
certain in time you will be a lot better off wearing your Cyberorthotics than
not wearing them.
Q. Can Cyberorthotics be used in more than one
shoe?
A. Absolutely, Cyberorthotics are
transferable and are designed for the conservative shoe, so as long as your
footwear has a low heel, is lace up or slip on with a deep heel counter you
won’t have any problems, you can also wear them in a sandal with a covered in
heel, but not in sling backs.
Q. How will Cyberorthotics relieve my pain?
A. Basically foot, leg, knee, hip
and lower back pain can be due to faulty alignment of the body. By realigning
the feet and moving them into a straight and more optimal position it can have
a domino affect on the structures further up, for example, relieving stress
and strain on the structure below can alternately relieve pain on the structures
further up.
Q. Can Cyberorthotics reduce my knee pain?
A. Yes it can! Simply by controlling
excessive pronation with in the subtalar joint. As the foot rolls inward , which
is called pronation, it will cause the leg to internally rotate inward. If excessive
pronation exists it can cause the leg to internally rotate even more which causes
a greater twisting of the leg upon the thigh which leads to knee pain. Cyberorthotics
will be able to limit this excessive pronation which inturn will reduce the
amount of twisting of the tibia upon the femur thereby reducing the discomfort
in the knee.
Q. I’m a long distance athlete will Cyberorthotics
help me when I’m running?.
A. Absolutely, you will find that
Cyberorthotics will actually enhance your running and give you a biomechanical
advantage. Balancing you foot in a subtalar joint neutral position you will
optimise foot function and your performances will be enhanced. Cyberorthotics
will also provide you with the extra protection and support that you will need
ads you train hard and run long distance with less risk of injuring yourself
from repetitive imbalances that we all have.
Q. Should I need to see a foot specialist first?.
A. Cyberorthotics should be seen as another alternative or another option if
you like to alleviate foot and leg discomfort. Just as you would so to the chemist
and purchase an over the shelf device, Cyberorthotics can be dispensed from
other health care professionals with the intension to help you overcome lower
limb discomfort. Cyberorthotics should be seen as another inexpensive way of
dealing with foot and postural problems but if the problems persists, you would
be advised to contact your nearest foot specialist.
Q. Do I have to wear larger shoes to fit in Cyberorthotics?.
A. No. Cyberorthotics will fit the
normal contours of the foot, it is important that the footwear fit’s the foot
correctly and the orthotics should be manufactured in manner that accommodates
both the feet and footwear.
Q. How long will my Cyberorthotics last?.
A. This will depend on what you use
your Cyberorthotics for, obviously the greater the activity the greater wear
and tear to the orthotics. But generally any where between 5 to 10 years and
sometimes longer. Athlete’s may need to have their posts and covers checked
every couple of years for refurbishment.
